From the President: For June 2008
This year the winners of our annual Young Writers Contest seemed more comfortable reading their prize winning stories slowly and in a loud voice for those gathered at our May 14 meeting. It was even more enjoyable to hear the stories aloud than it was to read the stories.
It was a treat to award Brittany Blake first prize for “Picture of You” two years after she won second prize in the contest. I much enjoyed the variety in the writing.
Michael Voorhees took second with “Judgment Day.” Ariel Castro took third with “The Pinata that Fights Back.” Honorable Mentions (also with cash and a Book Seller gift certificate) went to Zoe Toffaleti for “Literally,” to William Forrest Holden for “It’s Christmas in America,” and to Camille Cadeaux for “The Legend of the Invisible Monkey."
Congratulations to them. Congratulations to Sierra Writers for its sponsorship of this contest. On to next year’s contest.
