The Open Read

Sierra Writers is sponsoring its semi-annual manuscript read on Wednesday, October 10, 2006 at 6:30 p.m. in the Madelyn Helling Library, Community room. Participants are welcome to come with a work of fiction, nonfiction or poetry to be read out loud, then critiqued by fellow writers. All works are to be submitted anonymously. The Read is open to the public.

Only one written work in any form—story, poem, prose, memoir, essay or excerpt—two-to-three pages, may be submitted per person. At the top of the entry, note whether work fiction or nonfiction and do not include author name. Entries must be typed, double-spaced, single-sided and printed in an easy to read font, size 12 point. Word limit for an article or short story is 500 words. Word limit for a nonfiction book or a novel is 750 words. All entries should be the beginning pages of the work. The author of any given piece must be present. Attendees at the meeting are asked to be considerate in their feedback and to keep comments brief and tactful.

The Sierra Writers read begins at 6:30pm. Members and visitors are welcome. There is no charge. The library is located at 980 Helling Way (next to the Rood Administration Center off of Route 49.)

Sierra Writers meet the second Wednesday of each month. Sierra Writers provides a venue for working writers of all types to meet and learn about each other’s work and share experience and expertise.
