John Lescroart

Wednesday, November 14, 2007

Many times on the New York Times Best Seller list, John Lescroart likes to talk about his twenty years spent becoming an overnight success. At 6:30 on Wednesday, November 14, John will speak at the Community Room of the Madelyn Helling Library in Nevada City. He'll share what he knows about turning the creative process into a lifestyle and turning that into a career.

Author of 18 novels, including 11 featuring his lawyer/detective Dismas Hardy, Lescroart's next hardcover release will be "Betrayal." Shortly before that, "The Suspect" comes out in paperback. The Sacramento Library Foundation selected "The Suspect" for its "One Book Sacramento" program this year.

John was well into his thirties before any of his novels were published. He had written one in college, another soon after, and another many years later while he was trying to make it in the music business. John wanted to make a living as an author. He wrote three more novels, while continuing to work in a series of "real" jobs.

In 1989, at age 41, Lescroart (pronounced less-kwah) contracted spinal meningitis. Surviving an 11-day battle with death, John moved back to Northern California and dedicated himself to writing full time.

The meeting will begin promptly at 6:30 pm. Members and visitors are welcome. There is no charge. Sierra Writers meet the second Wednesday of each month. Sierra Writers provides a venue for writers of all types to meet and learn about each other’s work and share experience and expertise.
