The Workings of a Book Seller

Wednesday, January 10, 2007

Join Alison Jones-Pomatto as she discusses the publishing business from a book seller's point of view. Learn how an independent bookstore chooses which books to stock, how it deals with suppliers and publishers, how it decides to present titles on the shelves, and more.

Alison has worked in the book business for over twelve years. She is a book buyer, manager, and specialist in children’s literature at The Book Seller in Grass Valley. Alison previously owned a retail clothing business in Nevada City and worked as an aide to Congressmen Norman Mineta and Robert Matsui. She also works as a stage manager with local theatre organizations. She has served on the boards of directors of SYRCL and The Foothill Theatre Company and is currently a trustee of the Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Foundation.

The meeting will begin promptly at 6:30 pm. Members and visitors are welcome. There is no charge. Sierra Writers meet the second Wednesday of each month. Sierra Writers provides a venue for writers of all types to meet and learn about each other’s work and share experience and expertise.
